I have been an Augustinian Friar for 63 years and spent 20 of those years preaching for the poor. I came to the monastery several years ago when I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Unfortunately, I have several other health concerns that prevent me from living independently. Your generosity allows me to stay at home surrounded by my brothers in an environment where we friars look out for one another. The 24/7 presence of a dedicated health-care team enhances my sense of security.

Last September, I had difficulty breathing in the middle of the night. I pulled an emergency cord, and a nurse was able to get me to the hospital immediately. I was diagnosed with heart failure. Had I been anywhere else, who knows what would have happened. You can imagine the depth of my heartfelt gratitude when I pray for all of you who make the monastery possible. I cherish the spiritual nourishment I receive at daily Mass and the table conversations about what friars are reading, and of course quiet time to pray. All of this strengthens and bolsters my faith as I approach the day when I meet the Lord.

Thank you for your ministry to me and for providing me with the care that I need during this fragile stage of my life. God bless you.
